This was the first OW dive for the WGW Boy Scouts. We completed all of our skills. One student had difficulties with mask clearing and started choking and surfaced. I surfaced with him and asked him if he would hang out on the shore while I finished with the others. I completed the skills with the others and worked with that student a little closer to the shore.

After putting his face in the water without a mask while breathing through his regulator, he got comfortable with the sensation of water on his face and in his nose. After doing this for a while, he was able to successfully clear his mask. We wanted to be sure it wasn't a fluke so we tried it again. He did it without a problem. I suggested to him that he may want to play at home, in his pool, breathing through his snorkel while swimming around without a mask.

After that, we completed the remainder of the skills together as a class. Everyone did very well.

Once all of the skills were successfully completed, we took a surface interval to change tanks and get something to eat. Once that was done, the great folks at Lake Denton Camp asked the boys if they wanted to play on the Slip-N-Slide. Well, of course they did! The camp stuff fired up the sprinklers to start the water flowing down the slide. Then they brought out a jug of soap to lube the slide up. Several of the boys started sliding down on their bellies but some of them had difficulties sliding, so the camp staff went in and came back out with a half dozen inner tubes. This was one of the funnest surface intervals ever!
